Here's a brief excerpt from this episode.

All artists, no matter how successful, have experienced some horrifically embarrassing moment on the public stage. Unfortunately, when things go wrong, they tend to go wrong in front of hundreds of people. This week our team of “fundits” includes a writer, a musician, a filmmaker, and a theater geek sharing their most humiliating moments as artists. Hosted by filmmaker Danny Plotnick.

Our guests include:

He continues to work in various capacities with a number of Bay Area artists, including Victor Krummenacher (Camper Van Beethoven/Monks of Doom), Alison Faith Levy (The Loud Family/The Sippy Cups) and Doug Hilsinger (Bomb/Enorchestra). Here's a brief excerpt from this episode.

A loving tribute to off-the-radar films, as well as a journey into the faded balconies of single screen movie theaters. To most well-educated cineastes, off the radar films bring to mind titles like Eraserhead, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, The Sweet Smell of Success and Detour. This week, our team of fundits dig deeper into the celluloid closet as we discuss Mormon educational films, medical training films, and other oddities with catchy titles like The Estrogen Cycle of The Rat. And if that’s not enough, we share our love for single screen movie theaters, explore the rapidly changing theater going experience, and pay homage to faded movie palaces like San Francisco’s Strand Theater, Boston’s Pilgrim Theater, and more.

Guests Include:
Jack Stevenson is an American film writer and print collector who moved from San Francisco to Denmark in 1993 but remains a big fan of San Francisco and Market Street and the Tenderloin and Tulan in particular. His books include Fleshpot, Land of 1,000 Balconies and Addicted.

Christian Bruno co-directed the fantastic short documentary Pie Fight ’69, a classic look at San Francisco film history. He is currently finishing a documentary about the demise of single screen movie theater called Strand: A Natural History of Cinema. He is a dapper dresser.

Jesse Ficks programs the Midnites For Maniacs triple bill extravaganza at the legendary Castro Theater. He also writes about film in various national publications.

Episode 2: Books That Would Make Great Movies & How Hollywood Would Ruin Them

Here's a brief excerpt from this episode.

Hollywood has a rich history of turning great pieces of literature into fantastically mediocre movies. Today we discuss some of our favorite books that, given the right treatment, would shine on the silver screen, but more likely would wilt under a coat of Hollywood gloss, sheen and superstardom. Discussed will be Charles Bukowski’s Ham on Rye, Charles Willeford’s The Burnt Orange Heresy, Judy Blume’s Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, and Chester Himes’ Cotton Comes To Harlem.

Guests include:

Anthony Bedard is a drummer and guitarist. He drummed for San Francisco’s legendary Icky Boyfriends, a band known to clear the room at lightning speed. He is currently playing guitar in the panic-skiffle rock combo known as Hank IV. Bedard also books The Hemlock Tavern, a San Francisco watering hole and rock club.

Nicole Hunter is a librarian who believes in the power of television to completely distract you from society’s ills, of which she thinks there are too many. Most of them can be found on television. She reminds you to always wear a scarf. She is also the co-host of the knitting-based Stash and Burn podcast.

Bucky Sinister is the author of three acclaimed books of poetry—King of the Roadkills, Whiskey and Robots, and the brand new All Blacked Out & Nowhere To Go. Bucky honed his writing skills and performing chops as emcee of the outrageous poetry brawl scene at the Chameleon in San Francisco’s Mission District during the mid 90’s. Episode 1: Worst Rock Show Ever

Subscribe & Download full episodes from iTunes.
Here's a brief excerpt from this episode.

If you go to enough rock shows, you inevitably see some horrible bands—tuneless, ear shattering, egotistical boobs that make you want to run screaming for the door. But for some reason on some nights, you don’t run screaming for the door. You sit there, grit your teeth and soak in the caterwaul and the bombast. Maybe there is a “no ins and outs policy”, maybe you’re trying to impress some friends, or maybe you’re hoping that enough liquor will make it all better. We’ve all been there and we’ve all felt the pain. Today’s esteemed panelists share their rock and roll horror stories. Third Eye Blind, Psychefunkapus, The Hidden Hand, Sunn O)), OM, and The Godwads take it on the chin in the debut episode of Nest of Vipers.

Beth Lisick is hysterical. She’s a performer, gossip columnist and author whose books include Monkey Girl, This Too Can Be Yours, and the acclaimed Everybody Into The Pool. She also co-produces the Porchlight storytelling series. Her stories are sassy and effervescent, filled with wry observations about the human species. Most importantly Beth isn’t afraid to poke fun at herself which will be clear as soon as she starts talking about her rock and roll urinary tract infection in this week’s episode.

John Whitson is the owner of the record label Holy Mountain, home to a variety of avant, outré, psychedelic, and heavy offerings from Six Organs of Admittance, Om, Residual Echoes and more. He is consumed by history and the past and even claims that "it helps me live in the present." He currently resides in Portland, Ore. where he dreams of living in Brazil.
