Who doesn’t love stories of touring bands on the highway to hell? This week our team of grizzled “fundits” share tour stories from the rock and roll, disco and filmmaking trenches. Super flammable pot seeds, beer-soaked van crashes, well-meaning nincompoops, near death experiences, and foosball are discussed. Hosted by filmmaker Danny Plotnick.

Guests include:

Anthony Bedard is a drummer and guitarist. He drummed for San Francisco’s legendary Icky Boyfriends, a band known to clear the room at lightning speed. He is currently playing guitar in the panic-skiffle rock combo known as Hank IV. Bedard also books The Hemlock Tavern, a San Francisco watering hole and rock club.

Chuck Prophet is an American guitar maestro. He cut his teeth with on the rootsy side of the paisley underground with Green On Red. He has subsequently released a boatload of solo records including the Age of Miracles, No Other Love and the soon to be released, tentatively titled Soap and Water.

Gil Ray beat the skins for the critically-acclaimed, NorCal darlings Game Theory and The Loud Family. He most recently released his debut solo album, the sci-fi themed, I Am Atomic Man. He was born and raised in the South, has a comforting drawl and is a true gentleman.

Engineered by Chris Xefos. Theme by Alison Faith Levy. Logos by Lori Damiano.

Episode 1: Worst Rock Show Ever

Here's a brief excerpt from this episode.

If you go to enough rock shows, you inevitably see some horrible bands—tuneless, ear shattering, egotistical boobs that make you want to run screaming for the door. But for some reason on some nights, you don’t run screaming for the door. You sit there, grit your teeth and soak in the caterwaul and the bombast. Maybe there is a “no ins and outs policy”, maybe you’re trying to impress some friends, or maybe you’re hoping that enough liquor will make it all better. We’ve all been there and we’ve all felt the pain. Today’s esteemed panelists share their rock and roll horror stories. Third Eye Blind, Psychefunkapus, The Hidden Hand, Sunn O)), OM, and The Godwads take it on the chin in the debut episode of Nest of Vipers.

Beth Lisick is hysterical. She’s a performer, gossip columnist and author whose books include Monkey Girl, This Too Can Be Yours, and the acclaimed Everybody Into The Pool. She also co-produces the Porchlight storytelling series. Her stories are sassy and effervescent, filled with wry observations about the human species. Most importantly Beth isn’t afraid to poke fun at herself which will be clear as soon as she starts talking about her rock and roll urinary tract infection in this week’s episode.

John Whitson is the owner of the record label Holy Mountain, home to a variety of avant, outré, psychedelic, and heavy offerings from Six Organs of Admittance, Om, Residual Echoes and more. He is consumed by history and the past and even claims that "it helps me live in the present." He currently resides in Portland, Ore. where he dreams of living in Brazil.
